Questionable Projects

A 9-inch plushie takes on American life

Incompleted

It’s been so long since my last blog post! It’s not that I haven’t been doing things, I just haven’t had time to blog about them.

Like have you seen me on the top of this faux stump?

Or the girl and I inside this culvert?

This weekend I did things that didn’t get finished.

So yesterday we went to another Quad Cities River Bandits game, but first we went into this crazy antique shop in Muscatine where I saw three floors of the weirdest things ever, and then we went to Contrary Brewing where I had a Contrary Light and some fries and pickles with ranch.

As you can see the girl made me a new fleece jacket. The girl’s friend brought me back some Chicago Cubs bling from a game he went to without us, so I put that on the jacket along with the River Bandits pin. All the bling goes with the jacket perfectly and I love wearing it.

We were having a great time eating peanuts and popcorn from a box, not the helmet, but then these dark clouds showed up. The Bandits were down three runs to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at the bottom of the 8th, but they stopped the game and put a tarp over the field.

We went to the fan shop and looked around hoping the game would continue, but they called it instead and we had to drive home in the rain.

So that’s one thing that didn’t get finished.

Today after the girl came home from running we got to work making cupcakes for her coworker who is turning 71 tomorrow. He asked for marble cake so we found a recipe online and wrote it down.

The batter was different from any we made before because it was really thick and included buttermilk.

We had to add ingredients one by one and mix them with the mixer.

There were dry ingredients too which had to be mixed separately at first.

One cup of the batter had to be removed and mixed with cocoa so that we would have the two flavors for the marble.

I thought cow patterned cupcake papers would be funny with marble cake so I lined the pan with them.

I put vanilla batter in the bottom and then a dollop of chocolate, and then I swirled it with a chopstick. I thought the cupcakes looked great going into the oven.

But when they came out, the girl was like, Jones, I think we overfilled them! They looked completely wrong!

Once they were cool the girl cut off the overflow. She said we might be able to salvage them, but she wasn’t sure.

We still had a lot of batter left but we didn’t have a lot of time because the girl had to go take pictures of people shaking hands at a grand opening for her job. So we put it in a round cake pan and I did the swirls.

The round cake came out looking good. But we had to leave our cake project incomplete and will have to do the frosting later.

Stay tuned to find out how our marble birthday cakes turn out!
