A 9-inch plushie takes on American life

Outfitted

My second day of sunshine. The girl said today’s mission was to find me something to wear, so she took me to Hobby Lobby so we could pick out materials. It seems clothes for me don’t come off the rack, so she was going to design and make me something herself.

Right away we found a piece of fleece in the remnant pile in a color that I love. She said it would be perfect for a vest, which would also be a very versatile piece for spring. I thought that was that, but then she wanted me to look at accessories so we could add a couple of touches to express my personal style.

That was the hardest part of the day, trying to decide what I liked best. My personal style isn’t something I’d ever had to consider before, and there were so many things that caught my eye, from western boots to kawaii charms. The girl suggested I start with something simple, so I chose a smile pin. I felt like that expressed best how I feel right now. Happy to be out of the box and starting a new life.

We had another cheeseburger and fries on the way home because I enjoyed the first one so much. Once we got back to the apartment, the girl got right to work on cutting and sewing, saying this reminded her of something she loved to do as a kid, when she made clothes for a bear named Beaver.

She made me try on the vest a bunch of times so she could make adjustments right on me. I said, Does this mean my new vest is couture? And she said, Well, it certainly is bespoke. She ended up choosing to hand sew it rather than use the machine, so I think it’s probably couture.

Once she got the fit just right and the edges finished, I put my new vest on and we went outside for some photos. I posed on a chain link fence and got maybe too excited and fell off. I was fine, but got a little dirt in my eyes.

It was a beautiful day. I can’t wait to show off my vest tomorrow; the girl says we’re going to have an adventure.
